The Parable of the Two Crows

Person #1:  Quite a sight.

Person #2:  Yeah. ….  Intense.

Person #1:  It almost has a kind … of spiritual quality.

As if it’s … bursting with meaning.

Person #2:  … could be, could be; could be true.

Person #1:  I think … that there can be meaning – but without truth. You know,

something can be meaningful, but still be false.

Person #2:  You mean like, flat earths? And virgin births?

Person #1:  (nods.) yeah. That’s it.

Person #2:  (nods.) It’s true that something can be meaningful without being true.

But can something be true without being meaningful?

Person #1:  Yes … like, it’s undeniably true that there are 2 crows are sitting on

that fence.

But if you want to add meaning to meaningless truths…

Person #2:  … then you need to add something of value.

Person #1:  Over there are two crows sitting on a fence…

Person #2:   That’s true. Undeniably true. …  But it has no meaning.

It’s just the way it is….

Person #1:   But …one of them will fly off before the other.

Person #2:  (shakes head.) That still has no meaning.

We can’t even know which one will be the first to fly away.

Person #1:  … and even if we did, that would still have no meaning.

Person #2:  But what if we place a bet on which crow flies away first?

Person #1:  Exactly! That’s it. … I’ll take the one on the left.
